....how everything started....
The first time that I´ve been to Africa was over 27 years ago, a trip to Kenya. Ever since then I´m infected by the “Africa virus“.
Over the years I´ve travelled to Namibia, South Africa, Gambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Zambia...
I was fascinated by the black continent from the first second with it´s colorful and spirited people,
the unique bloomy but at the same time meager scenery, variety of animals and it´s unique smell like burned wood.
Everybody that has experienced this world, the african spirit and culture wants come back.
Openness, kindness, vitality are the characteristics that would come first to my mind when I think about Africa. I faced this attribute at every single journey.

During all these times that I´ve been there I´ve also got to known the shady sides and learned a lot about them. Hunger, poverty, lack of prospects, bad education and missing health care are only a few issues that the people over there have to fight against. That is the reason that I wanted to help and support the people during the time I was there: donation of clothes for orphanages, a charity run in South Africa for example which spent the money on shoes for kids and you were even able to give the children their new shoes by yourself („Bobs for Good Foundation“).
Pens, notebooks and soaps were things that I´d always pack for my trips to give it to the children.
Back in Germany I researched for an organization that I could support but especially one that would actually help the people over there. I wanted to find a small organization that I could trust. In my eyes the big organizations already got a lot of attention from celebrities and I think a lot of times the basic idea to help people gets kind of forgotten plus you´re not always sure if the money actually lands where it´s needed. Another important point was it for me that the organization wouldn´t proselytize the people over there or that they would change their culture.
So I found a blogger that wrote about the Midnight Summer School.
I researched and read a lot about the project and I straightaway thought that it was great. I got curious and contacted Sabine Valentin who surprisingly suggested a meeting immediately.
I was lucky because she just got back from Ghana so she showed me some pictures. I was very impressed with how much love and enthusiasm she was talking about the Midnight Sun School. All the pictures and descriptions convinced me and I would have loved to go to Ghanda to help right away. Another point that impressed me was that the project is guided by the natives. Richard and his wife Mrs. Lamisi have the responsibility to build with some other people all these unimaginable things. At the end of the night I knew that I wanted to support this project.
I started an appeal via WhatsApp where I texted my friends, told them about the project and asked them to donate. It was impressive to see the results. I was so happy when I got to transfer a total amount of 380 € to Sabine´s bank account. But the highlight for me was seeing the pictures of the teacher Belinda with her new bike. It showed me that every little input matters and helps.
At this point I want to thank all the supporters that helped donating- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU- without you guys this wouldn´t have been possible.
I wish with all my heart that this project will get a lot of support, furthermore courage, confidence and new possibilities!!! And hopefully someday I can visit to help locally.
